Series notes:

The SAL series started in 2001 as a collaboration between my son, Sam and I. He was five years old at the time.

Sam first tried painting when he was 2-1/2 years old. I set him up in our living room one morning and let him be. I casually watched and waited to see what would happen. Sam ended up creating many paintings that day. It was a fun and totally spontaneous experience.

The SAL series came later. It too started spontaneously. Sam's drawings were fresh and youthful. I thought they would translate well into paintings. So I asked him if we could do some for an art show that I had coming up. We painted one and that led to another, and another, and so on. Around that same time, a friend came over for a visit. She saw a few of the early SAL paintings, and liked them so much she gave us our first solo show in 2003.
