Series notes:
I fell in love with plaids while on a business trip to Japan in 1993. I was researching ideas and trends for the young men's market with a fellow designer, and we came across a men's vintage Pendleton plaid coat in burnt orange, olive green, and black. The coat was in mint condition. I loved it immediately. It was one of those discoveries from the past, where the entire design, color, fabric, scale of plaid and silhouette came together brilliantly. That coat was our inspiration for the entire collection.
Years later, my plaid interests evolved into weaving paint on canvas. Of course that concept is more abstract, but I continue to paint colors and compositions that express the idea of woven plaids. During the process, I like how the natural layers, colors and shapes reveal themselves slowly.
