Series notes:
In 2006 I had a joint TAL & SAL show. All paintings were upbeat, colorful and bright. One painting sold the day I hung the show to a gal who just bought a new house. The painting she bought was called "Friends." It features two girls holding hands with a bright yellow background. Behind them are various sizes of candy wheels, spinning around adding a pattern and dimensional interest.
In preparation for a show in the summer of 2009, I started playing around with an image of a girl. I went back to the painting of "Friends" and took that basic theme. I refined her eyes and facial features, and she began to take on a personality uniquely individual, sassy and frank. She reminded me of a few Stella's I know. This is how Stella was born. I painted the series thinking of all the Stella's in the world. Even the Stella in me.
Opening night of the show a woman introduced herself while standing in front of Stella #1 and said, "Look, I am Stella!"
