Series notes:
When I was young, my family frequented a place called Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour. Day or night it was always packed with patrons. I hardly remember the ice cream as much as I remember the visuals and the sounds. When you entered a Farrell's you entered another universe. The people working there were dressed in costumes from the Edwardian era. There were pictures of the Gibson girl framed around the place giving it an old time feel. There was loud music, horns going off and people running around delivering special floats and banana split sundaes. It was amazing.
Farrell's trademark colors were black, white and red, and there were stripes everywhere. There were stripes on the walls and on everything the employees wore. There were even stripes on the candy they sold.
I never understood it as a kid, but I was fascinated by the theme, people and surroundings.
I don't know for sure, but that may be where I met my first stripe.
