Jesus

Years ago I bought some American Indian art from a gallery that dealt directly with the Huichol indigenous people. With my beautiful art purchase came some literature about the Huichol people. It was clearly made on a typewriter, photo copied many times and translated from their native language to English. When I read about their culture and art in the literature I received, there was one passage that stood out to me. It described how they celebrate Easter, with elaborate parades, carrying small statues of Jesus. I learned they celebrate Easter because “Jesus was the most famous Shaman that ever lived.” I bet spoken in their native language, Wixarika, it probably articulates a bit better than that.

The Huichol indigenous peoples come from the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range in Mexico. It is said they have lived there for at least 15,000 years. I am drawn to their art for many reasons and first learned of them in 1988 while designing in the fashion industry. My boss at that time had purchased a carved wooden mask covered with tiny seed beads in colorful patterns. She told me about its origins and opened my eyes to these magical artisans, healers, and Shamans.

In my 53 years of orbiting the sun, I have felt Jesus, the Christ energy, come to me. These experiences have been deeply spiritual and relationship building. My relationship with Jesus has been of “energy” and healing. I don’t know much about him from the biblical view, or Huichol view point but I am curious.

What do you believe about Jesus. Do you celebrate Christmas? Do you feel him and commune with him? I am interested.
